As a self-published author with a limited budget, I can say that it is very hard to get noticed outside of your state. I have been at it 10 years now-I do have a lot of awards, books published, and degrees in writing that shows my accomplishments towards my career in writing. But if someone has never heard of you-How will they know to that they can order your book in any Barnes and Noble all over the USA? Self-publishing does give you the option of getting their services to sell your books-But only the books you published through them. In my case I have self-published through more than one company, so I think it would be great if I did not have to worry. I want to concentrate on finishing my other book ideas that are reaching close to 2,000.

My book is being distibuted by Atlas Books, being sold on amazon.com, barnesand noble.com, borders.com, as well as my website doubledapbooks.com. I have spent thousands of dollars over the last 10 months on advertising and solicitaion of talk show hosts, radio stations, etc. I have only sold a very few amount of books and in need of a professional who understands the business of marketing and advertising. I have my first book coming out in late Feb or early Mar this year. I am on a VERY strict budget but I would like to see about hiring a publicist to help promote my book in addition to the book signings and things I already have scheduled. How much should I expect to pay for these services?

Good Afternoon!

I want the job of writing, assisting writers in writing their books, and/or promoting authors of books to potential customers.

I have functioned as a publicist for previous functions, i.e. Harris County community health fair (publicist), raised money for the family of the Washington, D.C. sniper victim (fundraiser), political action committee (contact person). I have also written for radio, television news, been published, written a comedic television script.

How do I get started in this business?
